Use Breathing Exercises
To Relax Instantly

Melt away stress and tension with simple breathing exercises. Your mind will instantly calm and your thinking will become clearer. Learn these easy techniques and you will have a portable relaxation tool.

Relaxation breathing is a simple process that enhances well-being. It gives us control over our body, mind and physical stressors. Panic attacks and other anxiety disorders can be relieved with conscious breathing.

On a daily basis, few of us breathe properly. We are accustomed to shallow breathing which diminishes the production of energy on a cellular level.

When we learn to breathe deeply, our chest muscles relax. This opens up our blood vessels so our hearts pump more efficiently.

Types of Breathing Exercises

Here are a few breathing techniques to use for relaxation anytime, anywhere, anyplace.
Belly Breathing
This relaxes and refreshes the body and mind.
Sit in a chair or on the floor with a pillow underneath you. Gently push on your stomach with one hand. Begin by inhaling through your nose and expanding your stomach as you do so. Exhale through your nose and contract your stomach. Do this for about five minutes.
Yoga Breathing
This clears the body and mind.
Sit upright with your body relaxed. With your thumb, hold one nostril closed. Inhale through the opened nostril. With your pointing finger, close the opposite nostril. Exhale. Breathe deep down in the stomach while you are doing this. Do this for about five minutes.
Deep Breathing
This relaxes the body and mind.
Sit upright with your body relaxed. Inhale deeply through both nostrils filling your stomach and lungs. Follow this with an exhalation through the nostrils. Do this for a few minutes.
Breath Visualization
This calms the mind and refreshes the body.
Sit upright or lie down. Close your eyes and breathe slowly. Imagine your breath being a white light. As it comes in your nostrils, feel it enter your sinuses, down your throat, into your lungs, internal organs, shoulders, arms and fingertips. Do this until you feel filled with this white light.
Peace Breathing
I use this all the time. It relaxes the body and calms the mind.
You can do this anytime. While you are walking, working, cooking. Breathe normally but deeply into your belly. As you are breathing, say the word "Peace." You can say any word that brings you comfort. The word "peace" does that for me. Do this for a few minutes until you feel more relaxed.

Doing breathing exercises is one of the easiest ways to relax. These breathing techniques are often used with other relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation and self hypnosis. Done alone they are very effective as relaxation tools.
