Get to the Heart of High Blood Pressure
By Healing Hidden Emotions

Do you or somebody you know have unexplained high blood pressure? This is called essential hypertension in that it has no apparent cause. A theory has come from the medical community stating that this form of hypertension is a result of emotional stress.

The emotional stress this theory speaks to is our hidden feelings. These feelings could be suppressed fear, anger, rage, resentment or other negative states. Traumatic events from our infancy, childhood, even past lives can cause us to have suppressed emotions.

It is a common belief that present-day stress causes high blood pressure. Many studies have been done to disprove this belief. Stress causes temporary elevation of blood pressure. But, stress we feel everyday cannot be blamed for hypertension.

In his book Healing Hypertension - Uncovering the Secret Power of Your Hidden Emotions, Samuel J. Mann, M.D. describes this pattern in detail. Dr. Mann, a hypertension specialist at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center has studied many patients with essential hypertension.

Dr. Mann describes the hidden emotions associated with high blood pressure as being unfelt. The hypertensive patients he studied all denied they were under any emotion stress. Upon delving deeper into their pasts, Dr. Mann discovered events and situations that unknowingly caused his patients stress.

The patients that Dr. Mann describes in his book are outwardly calm. When they remember these traumatic events, the patients declare they have “put it all behind me”. This is another way of saying - I haven’t really dealt with it.

Patients with essential hypertension are said to have dangerous levels of pent-up emotions. On the surface, they are mild-mannered, gentle and eager to please. At the same time, their hidden emotional stress is causing serious physical ailments.

Just imagine you are deeply angry with someone – maybe a spouse or coworker. Your anger has been spewing for years. You come to the point where you can’t take it anymore. Your emotions boil over and you give that person “a piece of your mind”. Wouldn’t that be a huge release?

There are a number of ways of releasing our hidden emotions. Therapy, confiding in a trusted friend, holistic healing, forgiveness are some of the ways to heal the issues of the past and the feelings that we don’t even know we have. When the hidden issues and emotions are brought up and dealt with, blood pressure usually returns to normal.
