Holiday Stress Relief Tips to
Bring Out the Joy of the Season

Preserve your Christmas cheer with holiday stress relief techniques. Before you push someone to the ground to get the last Xbox game or attempt to slide sideways into that last parking space at the mall, try these stress relief tips.

It is so, so easy to get caught up in the rush and commercial pressures of the season. On top of our regular responsibilities, the things we have to do are doubled. It would help if we could all just plan ahead, but most of us aren't like that.

By changing our attitudes and perspectives, we can keep the joy in this magical time of year.

Holiday Stress Relief Tips

The magic of this season does not lie in the material gifts that you give. It lies in the joy and memories you create. These tips are not hard to implement or expensive. Give one or all of them a try!

· Focus on children. When I loose my holiday cheer, I focus on my son. Children love this time of year. There is anticipation, lots of sugary treats and of course, Santa. Their joy is infectious. Even if you don't have a child, give a gift or spend time with a relative or child in need. Give to Toys for Tots. Go to the mall and watch the children as they sit on Santa's lap. That will put a smile on your face.

· Give to charity. This is really the season for giving. There are so many who are less fortunate. If you have a home and food to eat, show gratitude for your blessings. Feeling gratitude will change your perspective. Give so that someone else can feel that gratitude.

· Show more love. Act kindly to the people around you. You may not enjoy the holidays because of family tensions. Even though it may be hard, act with love and kindness and the tensions will diminish. Smile and talk kindly to the people you encounter. Forgive misgivings you have toward a friend, coworker or boss. You will be amazed how much more relaxed you will feel if you express positive feelings toward people.

· Create memories. Having holiday traditions gives us something to look forward to. They are constants in a stressful time. That in itself is a stress reliever. Some busy families have a tradition of decorating the Christmas tree together. Some go to church services together. A group of friends may go out for a Christmas meal together. No matter what it is, they are coming together to do something together and creating wonderful memories.

· Give to yourself. Yes, you deserve a gift as well. Buy yourself something that makes you feel good about yourself. Buy an inspirational book, audio or movie. Take a long bubble bath. Get a massage. Buy a new outfit. Think and say kind, loving words about yourself.

Utilizing holiday stress relief methods can truly transform you experience of the season. The media, advertising and social pressure can really take the true joy out of your festivities. Take control of your situation. Holiday stress management can be done successfully by remembering the true essence of this precious time of year.
