Meditation Tips to Make
Your Practice More Rewarding

Using these meditation tips will make your practice more beneficial. Why not get the most from your decision to become a meditator.

Set Up
· Choose a meditation spot in your home or outdoors that you can remain in undisturbed.
· Make this spot your sanctuary.
· Gather any props in your sanctuary. These could be music or guided meditation CDs, candles, incense, pillows, blanket or shaw in case you get a chill.
· If you live in a busy and noisy area, use earplugs and/or eye covers to keep noise and lights at bay.
· Avoid noise, excessive heat and cold.
Process
· Try to put any events that have been occupying your mind at your sanctuary door. Clearing distractions before starting will help you stay focused.
· The best meditation positions are sitting in a chair or on the floor. Sitting upright helps one to stay awake and alert. Of course, sit in a position that is most comfortable to you.
· Be as still as possible.
· It is okay if your mind wanders. It will get easier with practice. Picture your thoughts as having wings and flying away. Then, bring your mind back to focus.
· When you are finished meditating, sit for a while and feel the total relaxation. Engage in visualization, prayer, imagery or affirmations. You may also ask a question or solution to a problem.
Practice
· Gradually increase your meditation time. Start out with 5 minutes, then 8, then 12 and work up to 20 minutes.
· Set aside time every day and stick to it. It will become second nature to you.
· Do it daily or twice daily when possible.
· Meditate when rested and alert.
· Learn the technique you are most comfortable with.
Expanding Your Practice
· Keep a journal of your experiences, insights and improvements in yourself.
· As you get more comfortable with your practice, experiment with other methods. You may find one that fits you even better.
· Meditation instructions are a great way to expand your practice. Seek out a teacher under "Meditation Instruction" in your phone book.
· Join a class or meditation group. You will definitely pick up more meditation tips and techniques from others.

Make no doubt about it. Starting a meditation practice will bring more clarity and peace into all areas of your life. Using these meditation tips will bring that about more quickly. As your practice evolves, you will be able to share your own tips with other meditators.
