Treating Adrenal Fatigue Means Reclaiming Your Well-Being

Regain your energy, health and happiness. Treating adrenal fatigue is crucial to attaining this goal. If you have been diagnosed or think you are afflicted with this illness, there are many things you can do to feel better.

Because adrenal fatigue is basically caused by stress, stress management is crucial. There are many ideas on this website for that purpose. Meditation techniques, breathing exercises, yoga for stress relief, visualization or taking a warm bath with essential oils work quite well. The next step is taking action on the causes of stress in your life.

Stress management can do wonders, but to achieve long-lasting relief, you need to get rid of the causes of stress. Treating adrenal fatigue will be speedier if this is done. Lifestyle changes are necessary in order to fully recover.

Ask yourself these questions:
1) What are the major stressors in my life?
2) Which ones can I get rid of?
3) Which ones can I change?
4) Which ones can I live with if I change my attitude?

If your job is a major stressor, maybe you have too many tasks to accomplish. It is time to delegate. It is not a sign of failure if you can’t do it all. In this age of downsizing, most companies expect their workers to do the jobs of two or more people. Or, you may need to find a way to leave your job.

If your home life is stressful, there are many things you can do. The most important thing is to choose your priorities. If you have children, they are the priority. Spending time with them, talking to them, watching them play and grow will actually help in treating adrenal fatigue. They are enjoyable activities and are much needed. Save projects and strenuous work for when you are feeling better. Yes, they can wait!

It is also vital to include plenty of rest in your treatment plan. Take breaks during the day and get plenty of sleep. Adequate sleep is crucial. Give yourself a cut-off time at night when you stop and wind down for the night’s sleep. Make bedtime as early as possible – by at least 10-10:30 p.m. Sleep as late as possible as well. This will give your adrenal glands time to recuperate.

Enjoyment and fun activities are also crucial for treating adrenal fatigue. Think of the times in the past when you really had a good time. What were you doing? Do those activities again. Do those things with positive people. Go on a day trip with your family every weekend. I love day trips!

Exercise can also be a big part of your recovery. Any kind of exercise (except sports) is really helpful. It helps with relaxation, self-esteem, enjoyment, depression and overall health. I like gentle workouts such as pilates, yoga and strength training. Walking is also great.

A diet low in simple carbohydrates and sugar is best for treating adrenal fatigue. A low-glycemic eating plan can be used as a guideline. Include lots of high-quality proteins and fresh vegetables. Junk food, caffeine, chocolate, simple carbs, sugar, hydrogenated oils and junk food should be avoided. Eat regular meals and snacks. People with adrenal fatigue often suffer from low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Lastly, but equally as important, is the role of nutritional supplements in recovery. If one’s adrenals are exhausted, there are certain vitamins and minerals our body needs.
· Vitamin C – 2-4 grams/day
· Vitamin E – 800IU mixed tocopherol/day
· Vitamin B complex
· Niacin (B3) – 125-150 mg/day
· Vitamin B6 – 150 mg/day
· Pantothenic Acid – 1200-1500 mg/day
· Magnesium Citrate – 400-1200 mg/day
· Liquid Trace Minerals – calming effect on the body
· Sam-E – if depression is present
Some herbal supplements that can be helpful in treating adrenal fatigue are Licorice, Ashwagandha, Siberian and Korean Ginseng and Ginger Root.

Along with nutritional supplementation, doctors sometimes recommend cortisol, DHEA, Pregnenolone and/or Adrenal Cell Extracts. When I was being treated for adrenal fatigue, my doctor gave me an Adrenal Cell Extract and a DHEA/Pregnenolone combination liquid. Those two things alone helped me within days.

The methods you can use for treating adrenal fatigue are many. It is best to do it in conjunction with your doctor. If this is proving to be futile, start with these suggestions until you find medical treatment.
